CFMPCA Guidelines

Before making purchases, we recommend you consult a veteran member to ensure you are investing in appropriate items.   Sometimes items may look good, but they are not actually period appropriate.

Clothing

When attending events, our civilian members remain in appropriate period dress throughout.

New members are able to borrow clothing for their first few events until they are able to obtain their own.  Women in the 1860s wore many layers.  When beginning as a reenactor, the most important garments to focus on are those that people will be able to see, this includes footwear.

Camping

Civilian members are not required to camp at events.  We do encourage it however, because those are some of the times we all enjoy the most, sitting around the campfire.  We sleep in period correct canvas tents.  Some modern equipment is allowed, such as cots and coolers, but these items must remain hidden in your tent.  We do our best to make sure our camp stays clear of anything not period appropriate throughout an event.  We allow new members to borrow a tent for their first few events, until they are able to purchase their own.

Miscellaneous Items

Anything you will use during an event that can be seen by spectators needs to be appropriate for the period.  New members do not need everything to get started.  We will help make sure you have the basics to begin with.  Then, you can purchase items as you go.  This is often helpful because it gives you time to figure out exactly what you want or need without spending a bunch of money upfront on items you may not end up using.  Some items you may want or need to acquire include appropriate eyewear, cookware and dishes, cooking and eating utensils, chairs or stools, candle lanterns, jewelry, and accessories.
